Create a “Survivorship Care Plan” that includes: what treatment you had, what risks you face, what screenings you need, how your gender/sexual identity intersects.
Prioritize sexual wellness: talk openly about your sexual identity, how treatment affects your sexual life, and ask for referrals to sexual-health specialists who are LGBTQ competent.
Preserve or plan fertility early: sperm banking, egg/embryo freezing, gonadal shielding, referral to fertility specialist.
Talk about body image and gender affirmation: have your oncology team communicate with your gender-affirmation surgeon or specialist.
Join a peer support group (click here) to meet with others who share your identity and cancer type: knowing you’re not alone matters.
Monitor long-term effects: heart health, bone health, second cancers, hormone effects. Work with a primary care provider versed in LGBTQ health.
